Fun Things to Do in Tucson During the Summer

The summer is right at our doorstep, schools are wrapping up for the year, and it's time to plan some fun activities. Summer in Tucson is all about staying cool while still getting to enjoy our incredible natural environment.

To keep you and your family happily entertained over the coming months, here’s a list of some fun activities to do in Tucson during the summer.

  1. Tucson Summer Jazz Festival

World-class performers travel to Tucson for our annual Jazz festival. There is an excellent variety of performers and locations. It’s a great opportunity to explore the downtown and enjoy some excellent music.

  1. Visit the splash pads.

Several parks around the city now have fun splash pads that kids love. It’s a great alternative to a typical pool day. All you need is a packed lunch and some towels for an easy daytime activity.

  1. Summer Safari Nights.

Experience the Zoo but with cooler evening temperatures as you watch the sunset at this series of themed nights featuring different keeper chats, animal encounters, artifact stations, and special activities. Grab some dinner or a refreshing drink and make an evening of it. It's perfect for kids of all ages or even for a romantic date night.

  1. Summer Night Market

On the last Friday of every month, head to the Mercado District summer night market. Local vendors will be on-site from 6-10pm, and most of your favorite MSA Annex shops being open late. In addition, there will be music performers, tasty food, and great drinks available for purchase.

  1. Seize the mornings.

While we love our mild winters, the summer heat can sometimes become overwhelming, but that shouldn't stop you from heading out for your favorite activities. The early mornings are the perfect time for hiking, biking, or horse riding in the Catalina foothills, leaving your afternoons free to hang out by the pool.

Tucson never falls short in terms of activities, and these few are just the tip of the iceberg!
